Even if you have an uncontested divorce in Rhode Island there are bound to be legal issues that crop up.
Below are just a couple of questions that many people disregard. It can be a big mistake.
Too many people think answers to uncontested matters such as divorce are easy. Perhaps you are one of those people. It's understandable. Most of us were conditioned to believe that we need lawyers for every little legal issue that comes along. Maybe you believe these questions aren't worth paying any Rhode Island Family law lawyer for some advice to make sure you get the right answer. Yet, there are times when things go beyond our own expertise or areas of experience. If you are a professional plumber, welder, homemaker, or other type of profession you may just need a little professional legal help (I call this "coaching") to get you through some of the redtape and paper work that goes with your legal matters. . . other times. . . you might need a bit more help. Yet if this help isn't needed all the time . . . why pay for an attorney a retainer for "all the time" which probably includes things you can handle yourself? Makes sense, doesn't it!?
This is precisely why I created my Rhode Island Divorce Coaching practice. No huge retainers . . . in fact, no retainer at all! Best of all, you have an experienced divorce and family law coach who is here to help you with your case when you need help . . . and not when you don't need it . . or when you can't afford the high prices attorneys often charge.
Look over the questions. Some of them seem to be common sense don't they? You might be surprised at a few of the answers. If you get one wrong . . . what might it mean to your future? The possible consequences might shock you.
Just consider this very small list of questions.
1. Do you qualify to file for divorce in the State of Rhode Island?
2. What is necessary in order for Rhode Island to have jurisdiction over a divorce matter?
3. Does the party who files for divorce have to live in Rhode Island?
4. What is the difference between an "in state" divorce and an "out of state" divorce in Rhode Island?
